Licensed (self-reported)
The pro states they hold a current trade license.
Contractors enter their license number, issuing state, and expiration date, and attest that the license is current for the trade they perform on HomesRunner. We remind pros before the expiration date they gave us passes.
This badge reflects the contractor’s own declaration — we do not collect documents and we do not confirm it with the issuing authority. Always ask to see the license before work begins.
Insured (self-reported)
The pro states they carry active liability coverage.
Contractors enter their insurance carrier, policy number, and expiration date, and attest that general liability coverage is active for the trade they perform on HomesRunner. We remind pros before the expiration date they gave us passes.
This badge reflects the contractor’s own declaration — we do not collect certificates and we do not confirm coverage with the insurer. Ask for a Certificate of Insurance before work begins.
Background checked
Shown only when a completed check has supporting evidence.
Background screening is optional. A contractor may sign up, appear in search, receive quote requests, and take bookings without background-check clearance. A Background checked badge appears only when a completed Checkr report or a documented manual review supports it. The profile names the method used.
When supporting evidence is missing, the status is Background check not verified. A badge does not promise ongoing monitoring or automatic repeat checks. Missing, expired, or withdrawn evidence does not support a verified badge.

We remind pros before their self-reported license or policy expiration date passes. Background screening is not continuous monitoring.
What verification does not guarantee
Verification badges are a signal of trust, not a guarantee of outcome. A licensed, insured, and background-checked contractor can still have a disagreement with a homeowner, and workmanship quality varies by individual.
