How the deposit works

When you book, Stripe holds a 25% refundable deposit to confirm the appointment. The remaining 75% releases to your pro after the work is complete and you approve it. You can cancel within 1 hour of booking for a full refund; after that the deposit may be forfeited per our Terms. See the cancellation policy for full details.

Standard card-processing fees may apply at checkout, just like any other online payment.

Do I have to pay HomesRunner anything?: No. HomesRunner is completely free for homeowners. You only pay the contractor you hire, at the price they quoted you.
Are contractor prices marked up?: No. The price a pro quotes you is the price you pay. We charge contractors a flat commission only after a job is booked — it's not added on top of your quote.
How are pros vetted?: Every contractor passes identity verification, license and insurance checks, and a background screen. See our full verification process.
Is my payment safe?: Yes. Payments go through Stripe with a held deposit. The balance only releases to your contractor when you confirm the work is done.
What if something goes wrong with the job?: You can file a dispute directly from your request. Our team reviews disputes and can pause or refund the balance payment while we investigate.
