What you actually pay
The price the contractor quotes is the price you pay. That's it.
How the deposit works
When you book, you're charged a refundable deposit to confirm the appointment. The amount depends on the size of the job, not on the pro you pick: a flat $50 under $300 (never more than the job total), 20% from $300 to $1,500, and 10% above $1,500 (capped at $250). The remaining balance is charged automatically when your pro marks the job complete. You can cancel for a full refund any time more than 1 hour before your scheduled time; within that hour, or once your pro is on the way, the deposit is forfeited — unless your pro is more than 30 minutes late with no update, which is always a full refund. Bookings made before September 16, 2026 keep the earlier rule (full refund any time before your pro is dispatched). See Terms §7 — Bookings, cancellations, and refunds for full details.
Card-processing fees are covered by HomesRunner and your contractor — the quoted price is the total you pay at checkout.

You pay a deposit when you book. The deposit may be released to your pro once they're dispatched. The remaining balance is charged when the job is marked complete and held for 48 hours before it's released, so you can report a problem.

- Do I have to pay HomesRunner anything?
- No. HomesRunner is completely free for homeowners. You only pay the contractor you hire, at the price they quoted you.
- Are contractor prices marked up?
- No. The price a pro quotes you is the price you pay. We charge contractors a flat commission only after a job is booked — it's not added on top of your quote.
- How are pros vetted?
- Profiles are reviewed before approval. Background screening is optional, not required to quote. Check profiles for evidence-backed badges. License and insurance details are collected from the pro and labeled self-reported. See our full verification process.
- Is my payment safe?
- Yes. Payments go through Stripe. Your deposit is held at booking, and the balance is charged when your pro marks the job complete. Your pro isn't paid that balance until 48 hours later, so you have time to report anything that isn't right.
- What if something goes wrong with the job?
- You can file a dispute directly from your request. Our team reviews disputes and keeps the pro's payout on hold while we investigate.
